ALEXANDER J. BROWNLIE was born in the State of Arkansas, October 3, 1851. Accompanied his parents to California in 1852, being the first white child to arrive in Vallejo. Was educated in the public schools of that city. Is now a civil engineer in the employ of the Navy Yard at Mare Island, where he has been continuously engaged for thirteen years. Was appointed City Clerk, in April 1878. Is a member of the I.O.O.F., Golden State Lodge and Mount Moriah Encampment, also Vallejo Lodge, No. 64, I.O.G.T., and takes a prominent interest in all matters of public benefit to Vallejo and its community.
