1. Robert Brownlee, shoemaker, born Dunfermline, County of Fife, Scotland 11 June 1793. Robert died at Pilmuir St. Dunfermline on 20 December 1853[1].

He married Isabella Strachan, born 6 December 1790 at Coston Mill, Strathmiglo, Fife. She died at Dunfermline on 3 February 1855[2].

They had Issue:

1. Robert Brownlee, was born 5 May 1833, Kinross, Scotland, and died 17 July 1908 in Ayr, Scotland. Robert served 41yrs in Army and was Colour Sergeant, Instructor of Musketry. Interesting Military Career in many parts of the world. He was married firstly on 18 February 1861 to Margaret McKellar, born 8 June 1843 in Glasgow. 1. Duncan Robert Brownlee born 14 March 1863 at Camp Shorncliffe, Kent UK. He died 24 May 1864 in Dover, UK[4].

2. Arthur Brownlee born 6 November 1864 in Aberdeen[5] and died (?)

3. Lilly Brownlee born 14 January 1867 at Wellington Front Barracks in Gibraltar. She married firstly Charles Hall in Belfast on 24 July 1886. Charles died in 1899[6].

They had issue:

1. Robert Hall born 1888[7]

2. Arthur Hall born 1900 (after death of father in 1899)[8]

Lilly Hall (nee Brownlee) was married secondly to James Giffen at Ayr on 6 January 1903. They immigrated to Australia in 1919. Lilly died 7 June 1940 in Russell Vale NSW Australia[9].

Robert Brownlee born 5 May 1833 married secondly on 31 December 1874 at Newton, Ayr, Scotland to Janet Rusk born 10 February 1840 at Ayr. Janet died 28 February 1881 (aged 40 years) at 25 Garden Street, Wallacetown Ayr[10].

They had issue:

1. John Rusk Brownlee was born on 17 October 1875 at 15 Garden Street, Wallacetown Ayr[11] and had died by 1908. He served in the Army.

2. Mary Brownlee was born on 26 December 1876 at 15 Garden Street, Wallacetown Ayr[12] and had died by 1908.

3. Charles Dinning Brownlee was born on 19 October 1878 at 15 Garden Street, Wallacetown Ayr[13] and had died by 1908. Served in the Army.

4. James Alexander Brownlee, born 8 June 1880 at 15 Garden Street, Wallacetown Ayr, and died at sea on 22 September 1914 when his ship, HMS Aboukir, was struck by a German U-Boat[14]. He was married in 1904 at Cowdenbeath to Annie Bonnar, born 1881, near Cambelltown, died 1969, Gillingham. James was killed in the First World War, aboard the Aboukir, which was sunk in its first month of war. The navy as compensation educated all three of James’ sons[15].

1. Robert Brownlee, D.S.C., born 1906, Cowdenbeath, died 1970 at Gillingham. Married at Gillingham in 1932 to Lilian Heath. Distinguished Naval Career.

1. Brian Brownlee, born 1933. Brian married Marjorie (?).

1. Geoffrey Brownlee, born 1966.

2. John Alexander Brownlee, born 1940 at Gillingham. Married in 1969 at Staplehurst to Eunice Barwell[16]. John is a Land Surveyor and has worked in many countries. Currently working in U.K. (2 January 1990).

2. Lois Brownlee, born 1973 at Basingstoke.

3. Duncan Brownlee, born 1975. Adopted.

Robert Brownlee born 5 May 1833 married thirdly at Ayr on 20 April 1882 to Mary McKenzie born (?). She died at Ayr on 21 May 1923[20].
