I tried a couple new techniques to help my trees out during this event, and I’ll update the post above to include them as I get time this week. Ha! The way I use shade cloth for my young trees when Iâm home (not on vacation) is usually to place some over the top if the temperature gets around 95 degrees or over. We are 4 miles from the ocean. Wood chips are not the only option for cooling the soil surface around an avocado tree. I am just not sure if the Hass will choke out the dwarf Holiday. Seems to me you’re on the right track getting the cleanest water to your trees that you can. You don’t want to wait until the soil below feels dry, but you do want to wait until the soil at the very surface is dry. Choice was based mainly on the size of the available area to plant. (I only have two trees.) A few weeks later the edges of the leaves turned brown and now some young leaves starting to come out but we noticed the young leaves starting to curl up and the edges turning brown. The ownerâs avocado trees should not have been growing and fruiting as well as they were.
